Who Am I?
This is my tenth year teaching in a classroom setting and my eigth year at LEC. Although I love the practice of marketing and everything that goes into making a business successful, I left marketing to become a teacher and haven’t regretted it for a second! I taught Business Ed (Marketing 11 and 12, Accounting 11 and 12, Business Ed 10, Business Ed 8, Law 12 and more) and ESL in Richmond for 3 years and started in Langley in 2013 which is great as it’s where I grew up and went to school.
I graduated from the University of Victoria after studying Asian Studies and Sociology. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, so I went to Taiwan to teach ESL. My mom always said that I should be a teacher so I figured that this would help me decide if it’s my calling or not. I decided it most definitely wasn’t! (hold on, hold on….) When I came home, I went back to school and studied Marketing. I worked for the Vancouver Whitecaps, DDB (ad agency), CSH Consulting and Golden Odyssey Mining and the Justice Education Society of BC. I was working one day and realized that, although I love Marketing, I didn’t want to do it professionally for the rest of my life. So I contacted an old high school teacher (my favourite one) at Brookswood Sec. and he let me come with his class on a field trip. I’d always thought that I’d be an elementary school teacher (which is why I didn’t choose to continue on after Taiwan) but I loved being in the high school setting! And the rest, as they say, is history.
Besides business, my greatest passion is travelling. I’ve been fortunate to have been to over 30 countries; my most recent off continental trip was summer 2013 travelling around Australia. I can’t wait for the next adventure! I also love diving (I’m PADI certified), being out on water, running, skiing and –most of all – hanging out with my nephews.
The most important thing in the world to me now though are my 4.5 year old twins!
What Can You Expect From Me?
I’ll come to class on time, prepared, and ready to teach. I’ll bring in real world ideas. I’ll admit when I make a mistake (I am human, after all!). I’ll encourage you to do your best, and do my best to instill interest in the subject area for you. I understand that we all have lives outside of school and will respect that things may happen. If you phone/e-mail, I’ll reply as soon as possible (but not after 9pm).
What Do I Expect From You?
If things do happen, I expect communication from you – ideally before you may have to be late or miss a class or not complete an assignment. I expect you to come to class prepared and ready to learn! I expect us to have a great semester together!
Let's have a great semester!
